The BORT GmbH – a Portrait
During economically difficult times and increased competitive pressure, BORT GmbH is investing: in high quality of products “Made in Germany”, in new technologies and product presentation styles in the Internet, but first of all also in distinguished, competent employees – an essential condition for a successful development of the company.
It all started in 1981 with Irmgard and Rudi Bort and three part-timers in rented premises in Schorndorf. Today 60 employees, whereof 20 are in field service, are working in the parent plant in Weinstadt. Into further locations in Germany 45 employees are manufacturing approx. 90 percent out of a total of 200 medical products, developed and sold by Bort. Since February 28, 2001, the company is certified according to EN ISO 9001.
Almost all employees – just as the founder Rudi Bort – are “primary rocks” of the family business, many could already celebrate their 20th anniversary. The management, which is now in hands of Rudi and Wolfgang Bort and the former proxy Ewald Dambacher, concur in: “We want that our employees feel well and enjoy working for us” – this attitude versus the employees determines the relationship between each other and is expressed in concrete facts.
Future-oriented BORT is investing also into the development and marketing of medical products available without prescription, such as sports bandages, or special products for diabetics – an action giving an answer to three public health reforms, which had to be dealt with since the company was found in 1981. Less and less medical articles, which serve prevention and care or rehabilitation, are specified as “fully refundable” by health insurances, own cost sharing is increasing. Therefore patients increasingly cover their requirements of medical products, which are not compulsory to prescription, directly in specialised stores or pharmacies, where a qualified information always will include the good advice: “in case of continued complaints definitely the doctor should be consulted”.
Not only the employees and the management enjoy the positive development of the medium-sized enterprise – also the city of Weinstadt is happy about a company like BORT, and welcomes the style of “care for future” which the senior boss R. Bort is accustomed to do. In December 2002 BORT acquired an adjacent site of 11,000 m² for future expansion of the main plant.
In Spring 2001 our company has been certified acc. to ISO 9001.
