About us
– Objectives
The scientific staff of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS strives for excellence in contract research for industry and public authorities. The spectrum of services ranges from consulting, concept development, hardware and software design to system development and prototype implementation.
Our Integrated Circuit (IC) design engineers develop a broad spectrum of analog and digital ICs including standard ICs as well as Application Specific ICs (ASICs). Well maintained links to international silicon foundries provide for IC prototypes and production scale volumes.
We apply our core competences in the field of information and communication technologies and of vision systems.
16 years of experience in IC design, board and system level design and very skilled experts for prototype implementation are an excellent prerequisite for project work.
We publish our results in scientific journals, present latest developments at conferences and show demonstrators at fairs and exhibitions in order to draw international attention. In case of inventions we apply for national and international patents and license our intellectual property rights to everyone.
– Profile
The Fraunhofer IIS consists of two divisons: Applied Electronics IIS-A, headed by Prof. Heinz Gerhäuser, and Device Technology IIS-B, headed by Prof. Heiner Ryssel.
At the Fraunhofer IIS engineers and scientists develop microelectronic systems and equipment including the required ICs. Applications are in telecommunications, information technology and automation. They develop wireless communication systems with emphasis on digital broadcasting systems. Audio and video coding techniques being developed at the institute have reached international recognition due to adoption as an international standard. Image acquisition and pattern recognition technology are key elements in automated quality assurance. In the current research engineers exploit ultra fine focus X-ray computer tomography as well as high speed cameras.
The Dresden branch Design Automation focuses on the development of tools for the automated IC and system design.
The Application Center for Transport Logistics and Communications Technology in Nürnberg developes innovative solutions for the transportation of people, goods and informations.
Furthermore the Application Center exploits synergies from logistics and communications technology know-how for applications such as supply chain management, fleet management and traffic control.
The Fraunhofer-Arbeitsgruppe für Elektronische Medientechnologie in Ilmenau and the Innovation Center for Telecommunication Technology GmbH are just in the phase of establishment.
