About us
The economic strategy is first and foremost aimed at improving the quality of Graz as a business location and is distinguished, on the one hand, by the companies based here and, on the other hand, by the fields in which these companies work.
The 5 core strategies help to ensure the quality of the business location and determine the direction of future projects and measures under the economic and tourism policies.
Service Orientation:
upgrading of services for companies and initiatives for founders of new companies
Being service oriented, it is our intention to extend our services to entrepreneurs and founders of new companies in a very purposeful manner. Our aim is to support companies in Graz by working actively with them on the design of the City’s business environment, through the Business Division and by providing specific services.
The Business Scout Team is the contact point for all entrepreneurs in Graz.
Active Knowledge Transfer:
strengthening cooperation between the academic world and companies
Commercial Marketing:
supporting the attractive retail industry and safeguarding local suppliers
The core strategy for trade must also take account of new strategic developments on the part of the City (city marketing, city development plan …) and be open to these links.
The aim is to support the retail trade in its hard-fought battle with large shopping centres and to safeguard local suppliers by building up a professional commercial marketing structure and involving partners from trade and industry.
Site Development:
active development and international marketing of sites
One of Graz’s assets as a business location is its geographical position. As a result of the accession of more countries in South-East Europe to the EU, this factor is taking on particular significance (the hub of South-East Europe). As part of its regional planning strategy, the city must provide the appropriate business environment.
Tourism:
strengthening the tourism segments of city and cultural tourism, conference / seminar tourism and business tourism
The ambitious aim of the City Council is for Graz to become one of the top 3 tourist destinations in Austria after Vienna and Salzburg and to position Graz as a city of films.
The “Cultural Capital of Europe 2003” project achieved an improvement in terms of the level of recognition by tourists and thus an improvement in the image of Graz as a destination.
In terms of infrastructure, new offers were created which have further increased the competitiveness of Graz. This is the basis on which the framework for further positive development can be created and both the regional networking and the internationalisation of the city be driven forward.
